Leadership Los Alamos is accepting applications for its 2017-18 program, which gets underway in September.
To date, LLA has graduated more than 250 leaders who are making a difference in this community. LLA is seeking to fill this year’s class with approximately 24 committed individuals who want to learn more and continue this fine tradition.
The program begins with a two-day orientation Sept. 8-9. The deadline to apply for the program is June 30.

LAPS Stands Ready To Assist El Cajete Fire Evacuees
LAPS News:
Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) stands ready to assist residents being evacuated from their homes due to El Cajete Fire near Jemez Springs.
With more than 200 people displaced, LAPS expresses empathy and understanding of this difficult situation. The Los Alamos Middle School is availble to provide relief for evacuees who may need a place for respite, showers and bathrooms.
All support activities will be coordinated with Los Alamos County, New Mexico Emergency Operations and the Red Cross.

After an extensive interview process involving teachers, staff and parents, two Principal positions have been filled in the Los Alamos Public Schools.
Ivanna Austell is the incoming principal at Piñon Elementary School in White Rock and Pamela Miller will serve as assistant principal at Los Alamos Middle School.

LAPS To Launch 1:1 Initiative In 2017-2018

Starting with the 2017 – 2018 school year, the Los Alamos Public Schools will issue a 14-inch Chromebook to every student in grades 7-12.
Project Lead Salvador Zapien for the 1:1 Initiative said that a teacher survey found that studnt access to appropriate technology is an important part of today’s learning environment.

Community Invited To Bingo Night Wednesday At IHM

The community is invited to attend Bingo Night, 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall. Packets are $20 each and 16 games will be played. The event is a fundraiser for the parish youth group.
Prizes will be gift baskets with a minimum value of $20. Frito pies, chili dogs, candy and popcorn will be available for purchase.
“This will be a great night out for all ages,” IHM Youth Minister Kendra Wilhelm said. “If it is successful, we will have more Bingo Nights in the future.”
