Los Alamos High School conducted a Shelter in Place this morning around first period.
Superindentent Gene Schmidt explained that the Shelter in Place was called to give the high school staff an opportunity ensure that the people on campus were authorized to be there.

The Los Alamos School Board will hold a Special School Board Meeting and Executive Session at 5 p.m. Monday, Nov.10 in the School Board Room at the Los Alamos Public Schools Administration Building.

PEEC kicked off its Annual Fund Drive Nov. 1, with a goal of raising $15,000 to support the costs of operating the nature center all year long and providing free or low cost nature programs to the community.
Again this year, PEEC is keeping track of donations through a “bearometer”. If PEEC reaches its goal by Dec. 31, the bear will be able to hibernate for the winter. Red Cross Babysitters Course Offered At Y Express

The Family YMCA’s American Red Cross Babysitters Course is 4-8:30 p.m., Nov. 7 and 1-5:30 p.m., Nov. 8.
The course is designed by the American Red Cross to prepare youth with training in babysitter safety, basic child care, safe play, first aid and critical emergency skills, essential professional, leadership and care-giving skills, and how to manage real-life problems.

The theme of Chamisa this year is detectives, and students study at the “Chamisa Investigative Academy.” Giorgi came and did a presentation with an overview about viruses, are they good and bad, and how her study of viruses led to writing novels. She talked about her experience on writing books.

The Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who want to become physicians or go into medical research fields. Registration ends Nov. 21 for the annual Los Alamos County Science and Engineering Fair.
The Fair is Saturday, Jan. 24 in the Los Alamos High School Commons Area. Protocol Forms are available at all Los Alamos Public Schools.
