Indios Fire Burns 11,505 Acres Near Coyote

Firefighters achieved 50% completion on the Indios Wildfire burning in the Coyote Ranger District, which has burned 11,505 acres as of today, June 2, 2024.
Firefighters prepare for increased winds today on the Indios Fire.
The wildfire was first reported Sunday afternoon, May 19, 2024, and is 7 miles north of the village of Coyote, N.M. and burning within the Rio Chama Canyon Wilderness. The cause of the wildfire is lightning.

SFNF Issues Indios Fire Closure Order
SANTA FE—Effective today, May 30, 2024, the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) is closing sections of the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) and areas of the Coyote Ranger District due to impacts from the Indios Fire.
The purpose of this Order is to protect public health, the safety of the general public, and the safety of all personnel working the fire.
The following areas are affected by the closure order:
- All National Forest System lands within the boundary of the Coyote Ranger District
starting from the Continental Divide trail #298 at Highway 96 going north across Forest

Utilities Board Approves Rule Change … Customers With Solar Powered Residences Will See Lower Credit On Bills

The Los Alamos Board of Public Utilities (BPU) passed a motion 4-1 to approve the proposed changes to Rule E-5, which covers interconnection with cogeneration and small power producers, during its regular meeting May 15.
The changes to the rule immediately take effect.
This was not a popular decision for those Department of Public Utilities (DPU) customers who will be affected by these changes – mainly those who installed rooftop solar power systems on their homes. A number of these customers attended the meeting to voice their Read More
SFNF Seeks Public Input For Ski Santa Fe Chairlift 4 Project

SANTA FE — The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) began a scoping period for the Ski Santa Fe Chairlift 4 In-line Replacement. During scoping, the SFNF will seek input from the public and organizations to determine the “scope” of the proposed project.
This may include issues or areas of concern that the public or organizations feel should be considered within the project proposal.
The scoping process will help the Ski Santa Fe and SFNF determine what environmental impacts to consider and whether the project is headed in the right direction.
