Bandelier: Ninth Annual Naturalization Ceremony July 4

July 4 is traditionally a day when Americans celebrate freedom and independence. 
 
For the ninth year, Bandelier National Monument is proud to partner with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to host a naturalization ceremony in the park on that day. 20 candidates from many countries, after working for years to fulfill their requirements, will be taking the oath and becoming the newest citizens of the United States.

WRA: PNM’s Plans For Retiring San Juan Generating Station Saves Money, Aids Workers, Reduces Pollution

SANTA FE Western Resource Advocates commented Monday on the economic and climate benefits that would be realized through plans filed Monday by Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) detailing the retirement of the San Juan Generating Station.
 
“PNM’s abandonment proposal will reduce carbon-dioxide emissions millions of tons per year, develop more than 600 megawatts of renewable energy and battery storage, and invest hundreds of millions of dollars in San Juan County, where the San Juan coal plant will close,” said Steve Michel, deputy director of Western Resource

Free Hunter Education At Camp Wehinahpay Aug. 9-11

New Mexico Department of Game & Fish is offering a special hunter education camp where youth can receive hands-on training and earn their hunter education certification free of charge.
 
The camp is open to youth ages 10 and over who are accompanied by a participating adult. It will be conducted the weekend of Aug. 9-11, at the beautiful Camp Wehinahpay Boy Scout Camp in the Sacramento Mountains east of Alamogordo.

Family Fun On Fourth Of July At The YMCA

The Family YMCA in Los Alamos is hosting its annual Firecracker 5K Family Fun Run Thursday, July 4. The 5K is open to all ages that want to walk, run, or jog in this festive event.
 
Prizes will go to the top male and female finishers in Kid, Youth, Adult, Adult 60+, Stroller (with a kid), and Dog Jogger. The best Costumed Participant will win Bagels-for-a-Year from Ruby K’s. All participants will get the annual Fun Run t-shirt and are eligible to win one of many great door prizes.

SFNF Seeks Public Comment On Santa Fe Mountains Landscape Resiliency Project

SANTA FE The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) is soliciting public input on a proposed forest restoration project in the mountains near Santa Fe.
 
The Santa Fe Mountains Landscape Resiliency (SFMLR) project is designed to restore forest and watershed health and reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire across approximately 50,000 acres of the SFNF.

The New Mexico Environment Department is has announced the first of its new quarterly public engagement meetings to discuss issues related to the scientific monitoring and regulation of Los Alamos National Laboratory.
