SANTA FE — For the third year in a row, Gov. Susana Martinez has declared June as Great Outdoors Month in New Mexico.
 
Great Outdoors Month was established to help Americans celebrate the educational, economic and health benefits of active, fun, outdoor activities through a month of events that include National Trails Day, National Marina Day and the Great American Campout.

Christian Church Hosts Pet Palooza June 12-14

The Christian Church is hosting its annual Pet Palooza for families with children June 12, 13 and 14, at 92 East Road in Los Alamos.
 
Each evening will focus on different animals with fun activities, Bible stories, crafts, snacks, balloon animals and more. Tuesday, June 12 is Farm Animals night, Wednesday, June 13 is Wild Animals night and Thursday, June 14 is Pets or Domestic Animals night.

Santa Fe National Forest Officials Inform Public To Vacate Due To Forest Closure

SANTA FE – Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) officials are patrolling the forest to inform members of the public of the forest-wide closure that went into effect at 8 a.m. today. 

Forest officials implemented the forest-wide closure to prohibit public access to the 1.6 million-acre forest for public safety and forest health while in high to extreme fire danger.

Youth Activity Center Hawk Hangout Returns Tonight

The Youth Activity Center Hawk hangout returns again Friday night. FREE popcorn will be given to sixth grade graduates and 7th and 8th graders upon entering the AC. Memberships are free but are not required for the Friday night events. The Los Alamos County Fire Department will issue Stage III Fire Restrictions at 8 a.m. Friday, June 1, which will prohibit access to unpaved trail systems within the County.

New Mexico has a new fire that was reported just after 2 p.m. today and had grown to approximately 150 acres by 5 p.m. The Ute Park Fire is located off Highway 64 between Eagle Nest Lake and Cimarron in Colfax County. A large plume of smoke can be seen from surrounding communities including Raton as in this photo taken at 7 p.m. today. BLM Offers 24 Parcels In June Oil And Gas Lease Sale

SANTA FE — In keeping with the Administration’s goal of strengthening America’s energy independence, the Bureau of Land Management will offer 24 parcels, totaling 4,152.10 acres in Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas at its June 7 quarterly oil and gas lease sale.  
 
The BLM will hold the lease sale online via www.energynet.com.  
 
Bidding will begin at 8 a.m. MST. The BLM will offer 20 parcels in Beckham, Dewey, Grady, Major, McClain and Woodward counties, Okla.; one parcel in Zapata County, TX; and three parcels in Norton and Meade counties, Kan.

Bandelier, Valles Calderas And Pecos National Parks To Increase Fire Restrictions

NMFI News:

LOS ALAMOS – Due to the continued high risk of wildfire in the region, Bandelier National Monument, Pecos National Historical Park, and Valles Caldera National Preserve will implement public closures to all backcountry areas of the parks at 12:01 a.m. Friday, June 1, pursuant to Stage III fire restrictions.

However, main public areas of each national park unit will remain open. These restrictions are being put in place to help the National Park Service provide for public safety and reduce fire risk.
