ALBUQUERQUE — Thirty-five conservation organizations asked the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service not to recapture a Mexican gray wolf who crossed Interstate 40 in New Mexico over the weekend. The wolf has returned to the area around Mount Taylor where he had previously been trapped and removed in May.

Air Force Denies State Inspectors Access To Test For Toxic PFAS On Cannon Air Force Base

SANTA FE — New Mexico Environment Department Sec. James Kenney and New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez today asked a state court to order Cannon Air Force Base near Clovis to comply with state law and let inspectors collect on-site samples of toxic PFAS.
The motion follows Cannon officials’ refusal to allow NMED inspectors to conduct environmental sampling during a regulatory inspection on July 15. In doing so, the U.S. Air Force has blatantly disregarded state law as NMED has clear authority to conduct environmental sampling under state and federal law.

Los Alamos Public Schools will host an informational meeting for potential School Board candidates at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, in the School Boardroom at 2075 Trinity Drive.

David L. Smith, born on July 21, 1950, passed away at his home in the early morning of July 15, 2025. Surrounded by his devoted family, he received loving care in his final days. FBI: Zuni Man Charged With Stabbing Victim In Abdomen
ALBUQUERQUE – A Zuni man has been charged in federal court for allegedly stabbing another man without provocation, causing serious injuries.
According to court documents, on the night of June 16, 2025, Adrian Cheama, 36, an enrolled member of the Zuni Pueblo, allegedly approached the victim while he was walking with a friend along a residential street in Zuni, New Mexico.
Without provocation, Cheama stabbed the victim in the abdomen with a weapon described as either a circular metal pole or a knife, then walked away laughing. The victim sustained serious injuries as a result.

NM Leads Nation In Broadband Speed Improvements
STATE News:
ALBUQUERQUE — New Mexico achieved the largest year-over-year increase in broadband speeds nationally, with 20.5% more residents now accessing high-speed internet of 100/20 Mbps or faster, according to Speedtest by Ookla data comparing the last six months of 2023 to the last half of 2024.
“The boost shows that more New Mexicans are achieving higher, more reliable broadband speeds,” Jeff Lopez said, director of the Office of Broadband Access and Expansion (OBAE). “This is a great sign of progress in our mission for wider and faster connectivity.”
