Thompson Ridge Piles Rx Begins Feb. 5

SANTA FE — The Santa Fe National Forest plans to begin the 188-acre Thompson Ridge piles prescribed burn Tuesday, Feb. 5 through Friday, Feb. 8, weather dependent.
Piles that don’t get treated in that time frame are expected to be in the following week, also weather dependent. Location description: The Medlin and Shields private property is adjacent to the north of the burn area.
Thompson Ridge Estates is one mile to the north, La Cueva 1/2 mile to the south, and Rancho De La Cueva one mile to the east.

UPDATE: Workers Inadvertently Excavate Manhattan Era Ordnance – Military Arrive on Scene
Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities contract workers excavating dirt in the Los Alamos Canyon Resevoir Thursday afternoon picked up a military ordnance in their front loader. They didn’t realize they had the volatile device until they were unloading the dirt in Bayo Canyon near the old sewer plant. Members of the Los Alamos Bomb Squad, police and firefighters responded to the scene. Police secured the area until military explosive experts from Kirtland AFB arrived this morning to render the device safe. ALBUQUERQUE—Thursday, Jan. 31, a federal jury sitting in Albuquerque found Armando C. Gutierrez, 65, of Corpus Christi, Texas and Joseph C. Kupfer, 49, of Rio Rancho guilty of conspiracy and theft of government property charges after an eight-day trial.
The jury also convicted Gutierrez on obstruction of justice and money laundering charges. The jury’s guilty verdict was announced by U.S. Attorney Kenneth J.
