Fr. Glenn: ‘We Call Those Happy Who Were Steadfast’
By Fr. Glenn Jones
Well … almost a month absent from Los Alamos already. One thing is nicer for these old bones here in Albuquerque, though: it’s a lot warmer—averaging 10-15 degrees warmer daily. Yet … ponderosas are scarce … canyons almost non-existent … mountains more distant … the coyote chorale simply a memory. Ah, the remembered blessings of LA…
Now have been a month at the new job—with lofty title of “Vicar General”, but more descriptive would be “paper pusher”, for large part. Sometimes in conversation Archbishop Wester refers wryly, with a bit of sarcastic sting: “When I Read More

Fr. Glenn: ‘MY Kingdom Come’
By Fr. Glenn Jones
Anyone who has ever worked in just about any organization has encountered those persons for whom cooperation for the betterment of that organization takes rather a back seat to the protection of their own “territory”—their “kingdoms”. Some of those tendencies seem to be protection/accumulation of authority, and not having to be subject to wishes or desires of others—even when beneficial to the whole … or possibly insecurity about perceived encroachments against their authority—whether those “encroachments” are legitimate or not.
But, on the (sort of) flip side, Read More

Diane DavisFr. Glenn: Growing Pains
By Fr. Glenn Jones
Writing this column this evening, I couldn’t help but recall recordings of old radio shows: “Ladies and gentlemen … your intrepid reporter here, coming to you from the wilds of (wherever).” Looking out over nighttime Albuquerque with its city lights … well, we’re not in Los Alamos anymore, Toto.
Rather than the slow gentle traffic of Central Avenue, now is the Indianapolis I-40. People here, too, honk and wave, but the honking a bit more urgent … (“Well, pass me then, you young whippersnapper!”).
Alas … gone is the basking in the love and joy of beloved parishioners, Read More

Fr. Glenn: Leaving Los Alamos
By Rev. Glenn JonesYou know … as is often said, we never know how much we value something—whether it be persons, places or things—until we lose them. And as I am on the verge of departing LA, I am finding the bite of the “sweet sorrow” of good-bye much more bitter than sweet … especially as I am bound for bureaucratic wilds of the Archdiocesan chancery—to become an “admin pogue”, as we Marine combat arms types derisively termed the administration folks (and yet ran to them whenever we had a paperwork problem! “Puh-LEEEASSE fix my pay!” (grovel, grovel)). Fr. Glenn: Given An Epiphany
By Rev. Glenn JonesHow ‘bout that New Year snowfall, huh? Skiers are certainly happy. Being an old Texan where we don’t normally get such a volume, it was (and continues to be) an “interesting” experience. Just trying not to slip and bust a couple of ribs; been there, done that … hopefully for the last time (the ol’ ribs have had a hard life). Prayers go up for all of YOUR safety, too.
But snow has an interesting effect: it covers all. This “covering all” theme is quite appropriate for the present moment, for we Christians (or at least most of us) Read More
Fr. Glenn: Wholly Family
By Rev. Glenn JonesAs we begin coming off of the holidays, many/most of us have had the comfort of the presence of family—either they coming here, or we going there. But, once together, where “here” or “there” may be becomes secondary to the joys, thrills, and even at times aggravations, of their presence itself. This is family.
The weekend after Christmas we Catholics celebrate as the feast of the Holy Family, the “wholiest” family of all—that of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Mary and Joseph are considered the highest of saints for many reasons (no, Read More
