Fr. Glenn: A Fiery Fathers’ Day

By Rev. Glenn Jones
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church
Los Alamos

Dang … another fire. At the time of this writing, the El Cajete Fire is still going strong; hopefully it will be under control by the time you read this. As you know, one of the greatest tragedies of most wildfires is that they are so often caused simply by persons careless in watching and/or dousing campfires.

Perhaps it is because people in our modern culture have so little experience with open fires in general that keeps such things happening so frequently—the unintended consequences of neglect. Thus we see how little actions Read More

Pastor Granillo: My First Beer

By PASTOR RAUL GRANILLO
La Vista Church
White Rock

“Who did you drink your first beer with?”
I was caught off guard when someone asked me this the other day.
The truth was that there was never a time when alcohol was not a part of my childhood experience. My father was an alcoholic, as were many of his relatives and friends.  My brothers and I would make a game out of seeing who could get dad to give them the most sips of his beer.

I was around 12 when I convinced him to let me have my own. My mother told me that I was drunk on my third birthday and she spent the next couple of days nursing

Fr. Glenn: Letting Go

By Rev. Glenn Jones
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church
Los Alamos

“Letting go” … a phrase that has many contexts. “Letting go” may be literal, such as “Let go of the rope” or “He was arrested, but let go”, but very often we use it in one of many analogous senses. Negatively, we sometimes hear “He let himself go”, meaning a loss of care of one’s appearance. Certainly you may be able to think of more, but one of the most common uses of the term is, of course, the release of an obsession or grudge.

That ol’ forgiveness—that wonderful and magnanimous movement of kindness and love which we are quick to praise Read More

Pastor Granillo: Tapout

By Pastor Raul Granillo

I wasn’t very surprised to learn this since, around that time, I recall seeing a lot of people wearing shirts or hats with “Tapout” written across them. Some wore them to support the growing sport of MMA, some wore them because they were fashionable Read More
