Two workshops presented by the Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area (NRGNHA) at Los Luceros Historic Site will teach people time-honored techniques for creating pastel sticks, as well as how to use them to make art.

Creating traditional pastel sticks as used for centuries in the southwest is a rewarding process that allows you to craft personalized art materials tailored to your artistic needs. Village Arts is a kaleidoscope of colors through mid-August in a summer celebration of an entire spectrum of diversity. Over three dozen artists make this exhibition the largest that Village Arts has hosted, and the array of materials, subject matter, and interpretations mirrors the broad rainbow of hues on display. The community is invited to join Samizdat Bookstore and Teahouse Aug. 5 for a virtual author talk from M. G. Sheftall for the release of his latest book, Nagasaki: The Last Witnesses.
