Help Get Los Alamos Little Theatre Spruced Up For New Season Saturday

LALT News:

It is time to get the Los Alamos Little Theatre ready for the new season. A work party is scheduled beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 26 at the theater on Nectar Street.

Dennis Powell will lead the crew in painting the risers. Corky Howell will lead repairs on the storage shed. Pruning and weeding also will take place. Bring work gloves and a hat. Wear sunscreen.

There will be coffee, juice and light refreshments in the morning, and a lunch to reward the volunteer workers. Everyone is welcome. Read More

Two Young Artists Concerts in Taos July 26-27

The Taos School of Music (TSM) will host two Young Artists concerts July 26-27.

The first concert is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at the Hotel St. Bernard, Taos Ski Valley. On the program: Mozart: Divertimento for String Trio in E Flat Major, K 563, and Beethoven: Piano Trio D Major, Op. 70, No. 1, “Ghost Trio.” The concert is free and open to the public.

This summer’s 11th annual International Folk Art Market kicked off July 10 with a Community Celebration in Santa Fe’s Railyard Park. The annual Artists’ Procession included more than 100 of the 2014 Market artists from more than 60 countries, all in colorful national dress.

The Market ran through July 13 at Milner Plaza on Santa Fe’s Museum Hill and included international food vendors, artist demonstrations, hands-on art making activities for children, dance and the opportunity to meet artists from around the world.

Culture Rich ‘Fiestas de Taos’ July 19-20

The centuries old, culturally rich celebration of Fiestas de Taos will take place in Taos through Sunday, July 20 and includes festivities in honor of the feast days of Taos’ Catholic patron saints, St. Anne and St. James (Santa Ana y Santiago).

One of Taos’ staple annual events, Fiestas de Taos features live music donated by local talent, traditional dances, parades, and special presentations along with food and crafts vendors and activities for children. A new play written by Greg Pierce and directed by Janet Davidson with Tatyana Stavrowsky and Chris Dempsy will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday Aug. 2 and 9 and 4 p.m. Sunday Aug. 3 and 10 at the WH 21, 1641 Paseo de Peralta in Santa Fe.
 
The new play, which opened at Lincoln Center in 2012 with former “CSI” actor William Peterson, brings fresh eyes to the problem of bullying. The play tells the story of Becky, who is sent to Costa Rica to hide out with her recluse Uncle Sterling after a horrific accident.

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) will host a Summer Family Evening, 6:30-8 p.m., July 22 at which staff members from the YMCA will facilitate a fun activity helping kids make pet rock “siblings.”

Families are welcome to drop in any time throughout the program.
