‘Art in Action’ Launching at White Rock Visitor Center

An Art in Action program is rolling out Memorial Day Weekend at the White Rock Visitor Center on N.M. 4.

The first featured artist is photographer Diana McPherson, owner of Friends of Nature Photography.

Locals and visitors to the community can stop at the visitor center and watch artists create murals and other projects on a rotating basis.

Pinon Elementary School fifth grade students, along with art teacher Stephanie Rittner and artist-in-residence Deborah Brink, created solar powered kinetic sculptures called, “Towers of Power.”

Local author Don Willerton has kept busy with the literary muse since his retirement from Los Alamos National Laboratory 10 years ago.

Third Annual Discussion in the Chaos to Complexity Series May 31

SFI News:

Santa Fe Institute (SFI) and the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) present the third annual discussion in the Chaos to Complexity series.

SFI Professor and VP for Science Jennifer Dunne and Eastern Band of Cherokee artist Shan Goshorn will explore the creative process in both art and science, in a discussion moderated by SFI’s Valerie Plame.

The event is 2-4 p.m. Saturday, May 31 at MoCNA’s Allan Houser Art Park (108 Cathedral Place) in Santa Fe. The event is free with paid museum admission, but seating is limited.

An Opening Reception for The Darker Side of White, Art by Tiffany Rose is set for 4:30-7:30 p.m., June 5 at the Mesa Public Library Art Gallery  in Los Alamos.

The show consists of work in two monochromatic mediums: charcoal drawings and portraits in pencil. Without the influence of color, the artist can emphasize light, shadow and texture, and still capture a remarkable realism.

Public Invited to LAMS’ Production of ‘Hoodie’

LAPS News:

Director Mimi Adams will launch her production of Hoodie, written by Lindsay Price at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 16 in room 163 at Los Alamos Middle School on Hawks Drive.

The play also will be performed at 2 p.m. and  7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17. The production is free. Everyone is invited.

Directed by Adams and produced by Dana Kline, LAMS student Katelyn Skeen is the stage manager. Adult actors are Noonday Neese and Dana Kline.
