Western Writer Johnny Boggs Will Discuss His Latest Book ‘Billy the Kid on Film, 1911-2012’ 7 p.m. Today

Johnny Boggs

By KIRSTEN LASKEY
Los Alamos Daily Post

Johnny Boggs grew up fascinated with the West. He caught glimpses of it on Western TV shows like “Gunsmoke” and the images of the West’s vistas and open spaces were a far cry from the South Carolina swamps and tobacco farms where Boggs grew up. Besides having an interest in the West, Boggs also developed a real passion for writing.

Today, the resident of Santa Fe has combined these two loves. He will share them during the next Authors Speak talk at 7 p.m. today, Jan. 23 at Mesa Public Library.

Boggs is a novelist as well as freelance writer. He currently Read More

Karen Wray Fine Art has a new home at 166 East Gate Dr. in Los Alamos. Wray closed her Gallery on Central Avenue in October. “It was just not economically viable,” Wray said. “The number of art buyers in town is too small and tourism just isn’t off the ground yet.”

This Friday, Jan. 24, we will be opening Lone Survivor. Sorry you’ve had to wait for it, but as much as we tried, Universal wouldn’t give it to us on the break. As I’ve said before, if it’s a great movie it may take some time but there’s no need to go off the hill. We will bring the films to you.

Also opening this Friday is Nebraska, starring Bruce Dern. It’s directed by Alexander Payne who also directed two of my favorite movies: Sideways and The Descendants.

It opened in a very limited way in four screenings in November, but has gained momentum and praise. Read More

MPL News:

Assemblage and collage have a long history in contemporary art and Mesa Public Library Art Gallery shows a local master of mixed media, Santa Fe artist Dirk Wales.

From densely texted paper juxtaposed with reprinted photographic images, bits and pieces of tickets and paper bric-a-brac, Wales’ works are small worlds contained in one-of-a- kind boxes.

An artist, author, and film maker, the eclectic work of Wales is intriguing and engaging.

A steady influence for this work is the presence of the American artist of the 1940s, 50s, and Read More
