LACDC Seeks Artists for Two Outdoor Markets

LACDC News:

Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation is looking for artists and artisans to participate in the final two outdoor Artist Markets of the season at the White Rock Visitor Center. 

The Markets are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Oct. 12. Space is limited, so early registration is advised. A local food vendor will be on hand Sept. 28.

NM School for the Arts Accepting Applications

NMSA News:

SANTA FE – New Mexico School for the Arts is now accepting applications for the 2014-15 school year for the grades 9-11 (NMSA does not accept 12th grade students.)

Openings are limited and anyone interested in attending the statewide charter school is encouraged to apply and schedule a “shadow day” as soon as possible.

Admission applications can be found online at https:////www.nmschoolforthearts.org under “Admissions.”

Completed applications including the required student essay must be received by mail or fax to NMSA no later than Jan. 17, 2014.

Surprise LANL Guest to Make Cameo Appearance in ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’

An as-yet-undisclosed Los Alamos National Laboratory official will “revive” the 69-year-old tradition of playing a corpse on stage this weekend in the Los Alamos Little Theater’s production of “Arsenic and Old Lace.”

The Laboratory’s first director, Robert Oppenheimer, played the corpse in the Little Theater’s production of the same play in 1944. Other scientists filled in on occasion.

In conjunction with the Next Big Idea, the Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) will once again sponsor a “Chalk Walk.” Saturday, Sept. 14.

Library Celebrates Literary Locals

Since 2004, Mesa Public Library (MPL) has hosted the acclaimed Authors Speak Series that has featured noteworthy New Mexico authors across genres.

In May, the library kicked off a new series with Los Alamos’ own noteworthy authors. The quarterly series is called Literary Locals. The second event in the series will take place 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 in the Upstairs Rotunda at Mesa Public Library.

September was named the official Los Alamos Arts and Culture Month by County Council proclamation. In honor of this, Mesa Public Library will celebrate six local authors across genres:
