‘Tierra O Muerte’—Teens Talk About Their Exhibit At NMHM

Listen to National History Day students talk about their exhibit, “Tierra o Muerte: The Tierra Amarilla Conflict” at the Palace of the Governors from 11 a.m.–12 p.m., Sunday, June 7.

The New Mexico History Museum is proud to host three special National History Day student guests from Cobre High School, Elias Guadiana, Cheyanne Medrano, and Mateo Salcido, for a talk about their exhibit, “Tierra o Muerte: The Tierra Amarilla Conflict.” The exhibit explores the historic 1967 Tierra Amarilla land grant conflict and its lasting impact on New Mexico’s cultural and political landscape. From The Fire Tower: 2026 New Mexico Great Reads Titles Announced By State Library

SANTA FE — The 2026 New Mexico Great Reads book selection honors two books rooted in fire watch life: “The Burning Season” by Caroline Starr Rose and “The Mountain Knows the Mountain: A Fire Watch Diary” by Philip Connors.

The books were selected by the New Mexico Center for the Book at the New Mexico State Library (NMSL) to represent the state’s literary landscape at the National Book Festival, an event showcasing the importance of books and reading. This year’s festival will be held on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, in Washington, D.C., as well as online.

Teatro Paraguas Teen Ensemble Presents Comedy ‘Cuentos’ June 19–21

Teatro Paraguas is pleased to announce the relaunching of the Teatro Paraguas Teen Ensemble, which will open with a production of Cuentos, a comedy with music by Carlos Morton and Angel Vigil.

Cuentos is a fast-moving comedy with music about a sister named Sheri (Mesa Harman) and a brother fondly known as Snake Eyes (Kingston Leyba) who hail from Denver. Their abuelita (Monica Arteaga), whom they are visiting, implores them to go to Chimayo to find Tia Juanita, who is a curandera with healing herbs and a magic spell.
