PEEC: Snow Forecasting With Julien Ross In Planetarium

PEEC News:

The community is invited to join Julien Ross, OpenSnow.com’s New Mexico Forecaster, 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Los Alamos Nature Center Planetarium (in-person and virtual).

Hosted by the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC), this free event will share the 2025–2026 winter outlook, including the impacts of a weak La Niña or “La Nada” on snowfall.

Attendees will learn snow forecasting techniques, discover which storm patterns bring the best powder, and explore snowfall trends in the Jemez, Sangre de Cristo, and San Juan Mountains.

Step Up Gallery: LA County Employee Art Show Dec. 4

Step Up Gallery at Mesa Public Library announces the second biennial Los Alamos County Employee Art Showcase, an exhibit of art and photography, opening Thursday, Dec. 4. That same day, members of the community are invited to attend the opening reception 4-6 p.m. in the upper-level rotunda outside the gallery. Light refreshments will be served. The Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Division will be placing sand at various locations around town on Wednesday, Nov. 26.

  • Deer Trap on Barranca Mesa;
  • Soccer Field Parking Lot on North Mesa; and
  • The parking lot by the transfer station in White Rock.

SANTA FE — The School for Advanced Research (SAR) announces that The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity by David Graeber and David Wengrow has been awarded the 2025 J. I. Staley Prize, recognizing exceptional scholarship and writing that expand the boundaries of anthropological thought.

The endowed award specifies that the prize goes to a living author for a work published within the last 10 years.
