Whether you spend the day shopping, take a road trip, or travel around the world, you expect to have access to your money when you need it.

In this week’s edition of Money IQ, I will provide you with a few tips that will ensure that you can easily access your funds at any time.

If you are planning to withdraw cash at ATMs while on travel, you will need to know your PIN.

It’s a good idea to verify the PIN a couple of weeks before you depart, so your bank can have a new PIN or a PIN reminder sent to you if you don’t know it.

Register for Ruby K’s Halloweekend Yum Run

RUBY K’S News:

The eighth annual Ruby K’s Yum Run is Oct. 27 starting at 8 a.m. with a 5K run/walk and a 10K trail run/walk and at 9:30 a.m. with a 1K fun walk/run.

The event begins and ends at Ruby K’s Bagel Café at 20th Street and Central Avenue and all profits benefit LA Cares.  

This year’s run/walk is included in local MainStreet Halloweekend activities. Los Alamos Rotary Club, a supporter of LA Cares, is partnering to assist with the event. 

Entry fees are $15 per person for the 1K (or $35 per family); $30/person for the 5K AND 10K (or $90/family).

‘Flowers by Gillian’ Opens at KRSN

KRSN AM 1490 Station Co-owner Gillian Sutton designed all of the floral arrangements for the tables at the United Way Youth Team’s “Taste the Sky” fundraiser at Los Alamos County Airport earlier this month.

Sutton was a local florist for more than 15 years before buying the radio station in 2005.

She recently placed a large floral cooler in the KRSN studio at Diamond Drive and Arkansas Street and launched “Flowers by Gillian.”

Sutton now creates custom floral designs to order and delivers locally.

Snowmaking will be limited at Pajarito Mountain this season as last year’s water collection proved lack-luster with disappointing snowfall totals and low water density in the snowpack, said Pajarito Mountain’s Clay Paris. 

The new water retention snowmaking pond at the top of the ski hill has been repaired, however, the pond remains at a low water storage level due to the lack of a good spring runoff, Pajarito Mountain General Manager Tom Long said. Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District announced Wednesday that Science Education Solutions of Los Alamos will receive a $2.6 million award from the National Science Foundation. 
 
Science Education Solutions, owned by Michelle Hall of Los Alamos, is active in a wide range of programs to help learners of all ages discover and understand the world through science, will use the funding to enhance science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education with high school students.
