ESPANOLA—The Venture Acceleration Fund (VAF) is accepting applications for the 2014 calendar year, due March 21.

Selected companies will receive awards of up to $100,000 to assist in taking their innovations to market more quickly. Companies located in the Northern New Mexico counties of Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Sandoval, Rio Arriba, Taos, San Miguel and Mora are given preference for funding, as are projects associated with Los Alamos technology or expertise.

‘Helping Our Middle Class Entrepreneurs’ Act Introduced

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham, N.M.-1, has introduced the Helping Our Middle Class Entrepreneurs (HOME) Act (H.R. 4052), legislation to support small businesses and encourage entrepreneurship.

Specifically, the bill would simplify the income tax filing process for small business owners who operate primarily out of their homes by creating a permanent $1,500 standard home office deduction. UNM-LA to Offer Free $tart $mart Salary Negotiation Workshop

UNM-LA News:

The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) is hosting $tart $mart, an interactive salary negotiation workshop, 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb. 28, in the Lecture Hall 230 on the UNM-LA campus.

The free workshop is open to all students, particularly women, but anyone interested in sharpening their salary negotiating skills is welcome to attend.

Giant’s Gas Pumps Were Out of Commission in White Rock

Every gas pump was out of service at this Giant Gas Station at the corner of Rover Boulevard and N.M. 4 this evening. Clerks inside the store reported at about 8:30 p.m. that electrical work was underway in the area and the electricity to their gas pumps had been shut off for about an hour.
