By ALLEN MCQUISTON

Serving Los Alamos Since 1963

As we gather for fireworks, cookouts, and time with the people we love, we just want to take a moment to say something simple:

We’re thankful.

Thankful for the freedoms we get to enjoy every day.
Thankful for the communities we’re lucky enough to serve.
And thankful for the chance to live in a country where we get to build lives, families, and futures — together.

This time of year is always a good reminder of what really matters: the people around us, the peace we feel at home, and the small comforts that let us focus on what’s important.

Daily Postcard: Violet-Green Swallow Perched On Bare Branch At Edge Of Canyon Rim Trail

Daily Postcard: Violet-green Swallow perched on the edge of the Canyon Rim Trail in White Rock, near Kimberly. Although these swallows do perch, they are most often seen in flight. All About Birds calls them ‘aerial insectivores which perform acrobatic stunts over lakes and streams high in the sky in search of flying insects.’ They may look dark at first but with good lighting, one can see their green backs and purple rumps. They’re backkkkkk..well kinda, they did change it up a bit this time.  Now they are claiming to come from the “New Mexico Motor Vehicle Administration”, I guess someone finally told them that NM does not in fact have any toll roads.

What is smishing? Smishing is phishing via SMS – text message, as opposed to phishing, which is when they try to trick you into giving up sensitive information via email attack.

These attacks started up again this year, and thousands of people have already reported the attacks.

In 2024 the FBI had warned about this scam, “Since Read More

For the Los Alamos Daily Post

I was finally one with my paddle and I glided efficiently and smoothly through the water in my kayak. The feeling was Zenlike, as the motions had a meditative quality to them. My movements were instinctive and almost effortless. And instead of being hyper-focused on doing all the right things, I was able to actually relax and really take in my Read More

Los Alamos Daily Post

This past week marked the beginning of our so-called monsoon season. During the middle of the week there were frequent showers. Some areas around Ruidoso in the Sacramento Mountains experienced flash flooding.

The weekend saw the weather turn hot and mostly dry. A similar weather pattern appears to be taking shape for the upcoming week.

Be sure to pack some rain gear when you head out on a fishing trip this time of year.

The State Game and Fish Department stocked sterile brook trout into Placer Creek this past week. Placer Creek flows Read More
