The Art in Public Places Advisory Board has posted a new question on the County’s “Open Forum” webpage: Which Norris and Lois Bradbury sculpture should be recommended to the County Council for fabrication and installation at the new Los Alamos County Municipal Building?

Local Firefighters Shave Heads to Fight Childhood Cancer

The Los Alamos Fire Department is hosting a head-shaving event to benefit childhood cancer research through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

The head-shaving event will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16 at White Rock Fire Station 3 on N.M. 4.

Fifteen firefighters including Deputy Fire Chief Justin Grider have signed up to be shaved.

Relay for Life Kickoff Breakfast is Saturday

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life® of Los Alamos will officially get underway as event volunteers and participants gather 8-10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at Masonic Lodge (corner of 15th and Sage in Los Alamos) for a kickoff breakfast.

Empty Nesters Group to Learn Estate Planning

A new group, “Empty Nesters and Friends,” will meet 6:30-8 p.m. the second Monday of each month through June at Family Strengths Network (FSN.)

This is an opportunity to enjoy speakers and socialize. Empty Nester wannabes are welcome, too.

Historic District Guide Training Starts Today

Mandatory walking tour guide training will take place at 11 a.m. to noon today, Friday March 8.

Volunteer guides should gather promptly at 11 a.m. in the Nambe Room of Fuller Lodge, and will walk the tour route in the Historic District.

March 11 will be the kick-off date for these 1-hour long guided walks, which are being offered Monday through Saturday.

Tickets for these docent-guided tours are $10 for adults and will be on sale each day at the Historical Museum, 1050 Bathtub Row (next to Fuller Lodge), and can be obtained just before the tour. Read More

Community Invited to Grand Opening for Multi-Purpose Covered Arena

The construction of the new Multi-Purpose Covered Arena near the North Mesa Stables is now complete.

The community is invited to join the Los Alamos County Council as they host a Grand Opening event for the new arena at 4 p.m., March 22 at Brewer Arena, 750 North Mesa Road.

A project website has been established to provide updates about this project at www.losalamosnm.us and click on “Projects.” The website will be updated whenever new information becomes available.
