Ruby K’s first Cupcake Decorating Fest drew a crowd Saturday as parents and children gathered around a table outside the restaurant at 20th and Central Avenue to decorate cupcakes with vibrant frosting and an entire tableful of colorful candies.

Today from 12:30-2:30 p.m., Ruby K’s Bagel Café, 1789 Central Ave., Suite 2 is hosting a cupcake decorating fest to celebrate their new line of cupcakes.

Children will receive a free cupcake to decorate with colorful frosting, sprinkles and other sweet decorations.

The event is free, but Ruby K’s will collect donations to benefit Family Strengths Network in Los Alamos.

The Los Alamos Elks Lodge #2083, 1601 Trinity Dr., Thursday evening presented $8,000 in checks from proceeds raised at their annual Elks Golf Tournament for Charity event held June 22.

Annual Health Fair Set For Saturday, Oct. 27

The Los Alamos Heart Council Health Fair is set for 8 am to noon Saturday, Oct. 27 in the Los Alamos High School gymnasium.

Admission is free. This Health Fair has been occurring annually at various venues for 27 years.

The Health Fair began in Fuller Lodge and now fills the gym with  more than 60 booths representing vendors from Los Alamos, Espanola and Northern New Mexico, Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

Janali Gustafson, a senior at Los Alamos High School (LAHS) was recently honored as Rotary Student of the Month for September. 

Gustafson is the daughter of Sarah and John Gustafson and the sister of Elena and Nathaniel.

The Rotary Club of Los Alamos selects one student each month of the school year to honor as a Student of the Month.

Española YMCA Teen Center launching Audio Engineering Program

ESPAÑOLA – Teens will be able to record their lyrics and music this fall thanks to support from three funders.

The grants are enabling the conversion of an office into a recording studio and will purchase equipment including an electric drum board, keyboard beat mixer, microphones and other recording equipment.

The Presbytery of Santa Fe, in support of a recommendation from their Mission in the North Committee awarded $5,000 toward the audio engineering program and in support of the center’s cultural creative arts classes.

UNM-LA Postpones January 2013 Mil Election

UNM-LA News:

After several meetings with UNM administration and the UNM Board of Regents, UNM-Los Alamos was advised to postpone its resolution question for an operational mil increase until later in 2013. 

This decision was reached by the UNM Board of Regents with the desire that UNM-Los Alamos have a successful election and in consideration of the uncertainty in the economy and with federal budget decisions and their impact on Los Alamos National Laboratory employment and the Los Alamos community.
