Web-footed Vigilante Stands Guard at Pet Pangaea

Without law enforcement credentials or being asked by store management to do so, this local goose waddled up to a door at Pet Pangaea, 158 Central Park Square, and began guarding it Thursday. Apparently, word got out among the flock of geese and ducks living at Ashley Pond that Pet Pangaea sells highly nutritious pet food – so this feathered vigilante took it upon himself to protect the coveted merchandise. Customers avoided a potential ankle pecking by exiting through an alternate door. Once the goose felt all was well in the store and the food was in safe hands, he waddled back to Ashley Pond. Blue Moon to Light Up Friday Night Sky

A blue moon isn’t really blue, as this artist rendering suggests. The moon can appear somewhat blue if there’s been a major volcanic eruption that put tons of particles in the air, but otherwise blue moons refer to multiple full moons in certain time frames. Courtesy/Dreamstime

Staff report

The next blue moon is set for Friday, Aug. 31. There are two full moons in August, the first was on Aug. 1.

If you miss this one, you’ll have to wait three years for the next blue moon. There will be two full moons in a single month in July 2015: July 1 and July 31.

But can the moon really be blue? Yes, Read More

By Greg Kendall

The 2010 federal census shows that Los Alamos is lacking in its level of 20 to 34 year olds compared to the rest of the United States and has an abundance of 35 to 49 year olds and 50 to 64 year olds.
