Manhattan Project National Historical Park Fails to Pass House

Earlier this afternoon, the U.S. House of Representatives failed to pass the Manhattan Project National Historical Park Resolution 5987. 

A 2/3 vote was require to pass the “Yeas and Nays” vote. The Park received 257 Yeas and 158 Nays, however, 276 Yea votes were needed to pass the park through the House and on to the Senate for consideration.

H.R. 5987 is titled, “To establish the Manhattan Project National Historical Park in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Los Alamos, New Mexico, and Hanford, Washington, and for other purposes.”

The Monitor’s headline, “Council short on options,” of Thursday, Sept. 13, regarding the Trinity Site should not be just a lament. It should be a call to action.

Atomic City Transit Proposes Pilot Ski Hill Bus Route

Public Works Director Philo Shelton and Transportation Division Manager Nancy Talley presented plans for a computer-aided dispatch system and a pilot program for a route to Pajarito Mountain Ski Hill to Los Alamos County Council Tuesday night at Fire Station 3 in White Rock. The service to Bandelier National Monument runs March through November. The pilot service to Pajarito Mountain Ski Hill would run from December through February. Council Recommends Formation of Creative District Committee

White Rock Visitor Center Opens Sept. 28

The new White Rock Visitor Center Complex at 115 N.M. 4 is scheduled to open its doors during a grand opening ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28.

 

The 3,281 square foot Visitor Center, located along New Mexico Highway 4 (N.M. 4), the gateway to Bandelier National Monument, will serve as a tourist center and local transit hub to and from Bandelier and the Los Alamos townsite.
