Madame Marie Curie to Visit Los Alamos

LOS ALAMOS HISTORICAL SOCIETY News:

In a series of performances from Sep. 11 through 14, storyteller Susan Marie Frontczak will portray perhaps the most famous of women scientists, Madame Marie Curie (née Maria Skłodowska.)

Madame Curie changed the world in which we live through her discovery of radium and radioactivity. Through collaboration with the medical community, she and her husband Pierre discovered and established the first successful radiation treatments of cancer.

The Los Alamos County Council, staff and road and construction crews worked on the following list of projects throughout August:

  • Covered Rodeo Arena: contract was awarded Aug. 7;
  • Golf Course Community Building: ground breaking held Aug. 28;
  • NEDO Smart House: exterior stucco started – ribbon cutting is Sept. 17;
  • Municipal Building Complex: interior stud framing is nearly complete on all floors. Store fronts and glazing are underway;

Bandelier Visitor Center and Atomic City Transit Shuttle Go To Fall Hours

BANDELIER News:

Bandelier National Monument Superintendent Jason Lott has announced fall and winter hours for the Bandelier Visitor Center and the Atomic City Transit shuttle service.

“The days are getting shorter, and Labor Day weekend is traditionally the end of our summer hours,” Lott said. “Starting Tuesday Sept. 4, the Bandelier Visitor Center will be closing at 5:30 p.m., and then on Oct. 1 it will be closing at 4:30 p.m.”

New Hours:

  • Sept. 4 through Sept. 30, the Atomic City Transit shuttle service will run 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from White Rock to Bandelier National
