Las Conchas Fire Order Closures To Be Lifted

The Forest Supervisor will sign the revised Las Conchas Fire order sometime on Monday, June 4th. For those of us in Los Alamos this means that the closure will be entirely lifted for Los Alamos County. For the Jemez District, it will be entirely lifted for non motorized travel. Eastern Area 2 Concrete, Paving & Utility Project – Phase 1
Canyon Rd between East Road (NM502) and the Myrtle Green continues to be closed to through traffic. Residential access to this area will be maintained; however, residents who park on Canyon Road are asked to park off-street or on a nearby side street. Residents can expect flagging operations on Canyon Rd during the day time, and two-way traffic at night. Read More

Sidewalk Obstruction Removal Program

Los Alamos County would like to solicit the cooperation of property owners to voluntarily remove vegetation along sidewalks. Invasive weeds will be a problem this summer, so the county asks everyone to pull, spray, or otherwise control weeds and grass on their property and adjacent to sidewalks.
 

The idea behind this program is to create a clear zone – a clear walking path for at least two people to walk side by side along a sidewalk.  Property owners are responsible for clearing the sidewalk that runs adjacent to Read More

BREAKING NEWS: EEOC Finds in Favor of Former Assistant County Administrator Diana Stepan

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission rendered its decision late Thursday in the case of former Assistant County Administrator Diana Stepan’s charges against Los Alamos County.

The EEOC found the County guilty of sex discrimination as well as retaliation against Stepan who was fired Jan. 3, 2011 after filing a grievance against former County Administrator Tony Mortillaro. 

Attorney Sam Bregman spoke to the Los Alamos Daily Post a short time ago about the EEOC ruling in his client’s favor.

“Health Speak Out” Town Hall Seeks Public Comment

The Los Alamos Community Health Council (LACHC) is sponsoring a “Health Speak Out” Town Hall Meeting noon to 1:30 p.m., Monday June 11 in the Los Alamos Community Building on the corner of 20th Street and Central Avenue.

The goal of the Town Hall is to gather information from a wide range of health care consumers about their needs, health care experiences and recommendations.

LACHC will also share a summary of its 2011-2012 LACHC Los Alamos County Health Profile.

Santa Fe National Forest, Valles Caldera and Los Alamos County Fire Restrictions

UPDATED FIRE RESTRICTIONS

Los Alamos County Fire and Smoking Restrictions
Effective June 1, 2012

Building, maintaining or using an open fire is prohibited on all Los Alamos County lands except within developed campsites (concrete pad with metal fire ring), metal grills using charcoal or propane are acceptable on North Mesa campgrounds, at Overlook Park and at any park within Los Alamos County.

Smoking is prohibited except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least 3-feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials. Read More
