COUNTY: Electric Work Along Oppenheimer Begins July 6

Businesses located in the 505 Oppenheimer Suite and the 505 Apartments will be without power for three hours on the evening of July 6, 2026, as electric distribution crews replace a switch and a junction box.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, line crews will shut off power to the 505 Apartments and the 505 Oppenheimer business building. The 557 Flats will not be impacted during this planned outage.

Los Alamos MainStreet and Creative District (LAMSCD) is proud to announce the debut of Voltage Visions, the first project in a series of placemaking initiatives rolling out this year.

New Electric Rates Begin July 1 In Los Alamos County

COUNTY News:

Time of use rates and residential demand begin July 1, 2026 in Los Alamos County. Customers will see this reflected in their August bills. To see examples of the new bill layout or to learn more, visit https://ladpu.com/TOU.

Residents will automatically be enrolled in Time Of Use (TOU) and residential demand. Electric rates for TOU will be different during on-peak and off-peak hours. Residential demand will be charged once per month, at the highest hour of usage within the billing period and is independent of TOU times.

  • On-peak hours: 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at a rate of $0.1970 per kilowatt-hour

Corrected Atomic City Transit information for July 3 can be found below.

No fixed bus routes or Dial-a-Ride service will be available. Regular services will resume Monday, July 6. 

July 3 Concert Series Service & ACT MyRide — 6:30–9:40 p.m. The last buses will leave for North Mesa and North Community at 9:35 p.m., and White Rock at 9:40 p.m.

The Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) encourages the community to take steps to stay safe and healthy when wildfire smoke is present. Due to nighttime inversions, the smoke from the McCauley Springs fire has been condensed and squeezed against the ground and into the canyons. As air heats later in the morning, the inversion will lift, and the smoke should lessen.
