DPU Seeks Future Leaders And Change Makers

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is inviting local high school students to enter an essay contest that could lead to: 1) a spot at a weeklong summer leadership camp, and 2) a $500 college scholarship. The contest is part of a program organized by Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS), of which DPU is a member.

Aquatic Center’s Olympic Pool Re-Plastering Project Closure Scheduled For Feb. 22

Since May 2025, Los Alamos County, in conjunction with contractor Lee-sure Pools, has been preparing for the Olympic Pool Re-plastering Project, and the time has finally come.

The Olympic Pool and Therapy Pool will close Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026, in preparation for work to begin March 2. The pools will remain closed until construction is completed – anticipated in October 2026.

Los Alamos County Social Services Division is expanding access to vital support by offering weekly evening walk-in hours at both Mesa Public Library and White Rock Branch Library throughout 2026. The program will now be offered weekly on Wednesday evenings beginning in February, alternating between the two libraries from 4 to 7 p.m. The first and third Wednesdays will be at Mesa Public Library, and the second and fourth Wednesdays at White Rock Branch Library.

County Employee Charged In Death Of Taos Man

Los Alamos County Facilities Manager Vicente Martinez, date of birth (DOB) 1980, has been charged with five criminal counts in an incident in Ranchos De Taos that resulted in great bodily injury to Adelio Issac Fernandez, DOB 1970, and the death of his brother Abraham Fernandez, DOB 1972.

County To Host Listening Session On Dinosaur Park Feb. 5

Los Alamos County is planning improvements to the San Ildefonso (Dinosaur Park) playground and invites the community to share input.

The County will hold a listening session for the community at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, in Fuller Lodge.

County Announces Denver Steels Phase II Improvement Project To Begin Feb. 2 With Road Closures Scheduled

The Los Alamos County Public Works Department, in partnership with the Department of Public Utilities and under contract with Spear D Construction (TLC Company Inc.), announces that the Denver Steels Phase II Improvement Project will begin Monday, Feb. 2.

The project includes replacement of roadway, targeted concrete replacement including curb and gutter, valley gutters, sidewalk, drive pads, and ADA improvements. Aging water lines and fire hydrants will also be replaced.
