PEEC Adds Fourth Camp to Summer Outdoor Adventures

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center’s Summer Outdoor Adventure Programs consist of two weeks of day programs for students entering 4-6th grades, one week for students entering 7-8th grades, and now, a four-day overnight survival skills camp for adults and families with children 12 or older.

Aspen Art Teacher Receives LAPSF Grant

Britt Williams, art teacher at Aspen Elementary School, received a Great Ideas Grant from the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation. 

Williams’ grant will impact 55 6th grade students. The students will learn about the Empty Bowls events from Gillian Sutton. 

Then, they will learn about clay process, see examples from other artists and do the preliminary sketches of their bowls. 

After constructing their bowls using slabs and forms, the students can add texture to their bowls or build up features on the bowl’s surface.

Canvassing Board Officially Approves Bond Election Count

Members of the canvassing board this morning at the Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office reviewed vote tabulations from Tuesday’s School Bond Election before signing documents to render the final count – 4,283 For and 1,784 Against as official. The canvassing board learned that of the 7,378 ballots/envelopes received, 40 were rejected because they were unsigned, 4 were rejected because the outer envelope was received with no ballot inside and another one had no name. Sumners Foundation Supports Española YMCA Teen Center Program

Española –The Española YMCA Teen Center is launching a middle school mock-government program thanks to a $15,000 grant from the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation.

A representative from the New Mexico Educational Assistance Foundation will be at Los Alamos High School to help students and parents complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at the FAFSA Fast Five Grant Workshop from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 in the MacLab.
