Museum Of Natural History & Science Announces November Education Programs

NMMNHS News:

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (NMMNHS) Education team is continuing its offsite education efforts, with a new slate of free events for all ages and interests during November.

With the museum temporarily closed for a renovation project, NMMNHS educators are bringing natural history into the community with a full slate of public programs in Bernalillo County libraries and community spaces during the fall months through the Natural History in your Neighborhood program.

State Public Education Department Updates Martinez/Yazzie Plan After Community Feedback

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Public Education Department submitted a revised Martinez/Yazzie Action Plan to the court Monday that adds clearer outcomes and accountability measures based on feedback from students, families, educators, tribal leaders and community members statewide.  

The updated plan includes more specific performance targets and expands support for Native American students, English learners, students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged students.

Elementary School Mile Held At Los Alamos Golf Course

And they’re off! The 2025 Elementary School Mile was held in conjunction with the Cross Country District Championship on Halloween at the Los Alamos Golf Course, having been postponed from the previous week’s Home Meet due to lightning. A total of 72 young athletes competed.  The top boy was Fynn Smith of Aspen Elementary School in a time of 6:34, and the top girl was Gracie Nichols of Pinon Elementary School in a time of 6:57. The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) invites the community to step into the darkness and explore nature in a new way during its Night Hike – 5 Senses from 6–7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7, 2025.

This guided hike through Acid Canyon will encourage participants to discover how their senses adjust to the night. A PEEC educator will lead hands-on activities along the trail, offering a fun, family-friendly way to experience the sights, sounds, smells, and textures of the canyon after dark.

ALBUQUERQUE — Ten new graduates signed with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) upon completing the first Industry Credential Pipeline Program, a workforce partnership between NMDOT, the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS), and in partnership with CNM Ingenuity, during a special signing ceremony held on Oct. 31.

Ross Ramsey’s 114th birthday, Oct. 27, 1911, is being celebrated. The public is invited to join the celebration by contributing $114 to the Ross and Lola Ramsey Scholarship Fund. Since its establishment in 2023 when Los Alamos High School created the Ramsey Stage at the Smith Auditorium, the scholarship fund has supported four students as they pursue a college degree at the college of their choosing.
