$15,000 Grants Available To Take School Kids On State Park Field Trips

SANTA FE — The New Mexico State Parks Division is accepting applications from public schools and teachers for grants up to $15,000 to help pay for buses or other forms of transportation to get students out to state parks. 

The grant funds must be expended during the 2025-2026 school year. Nov. 14 is the application deadline.

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) would like to make the public aware of additional work at Chamisa Elementary School in White Rock over the next several weeks that will impact the community, students and families.

The contractor will be installing a new fence on the school site beginning Monday, Nov. 3, which will necessitate closing a section of the trail behind the school.

The Los Alamos High School Hilltopper Varsity Soccer Team won the playoff match 2-0 against the Silver Colts played Wednesday on Sullivan Field.

The teams were evenly matched but the Toppers scored in the first minutes of the match and again in the second period. The Topper defense held the Colts scoreless to win the match 2-0.

The Los Alamos School Board recently appointed six new student liaisons for the 2025-2026 school year. New student liaisons include Los Alamos High School juniors Antony Jaurigue, Madeline Lueninghoener and Eliana Padilla, and senior Matthew Haight. The Los Alamos Historical Society (LAHS) and its History Museum are seeking new volunteers for a variety of positions. LAHS 2B Government Class Launches Service Project To Provide Supply Bags To Homeless People

The Los Alamos High School 2B Government class is doing a service project to provide homeless people with bags filled with supplies and necessities.

These bags are going to give supplies to those in need across New Mexico. The goal for the class is to have two bags per student to give out to people wherever the students travel.

The homeless population is an ever-growing problem as inflation continues to rise.

In hopes of carrying out this service project, the community is asked to donate to help the 2B Government class reach their goal of $800. Read More
