Cinema Cindy Reviews ‘The Boxtrolls’

“The Boxtrolls” is marvelous in so many ways. This stop-action (and CG) animated feature takes you to the underground world of a community of trolls who wear boxes for clothing.

Each is named for the product advertised on his or her box. Thus, Fish and Shoe are the main trolls we get to know. And then, of course, there is Eggs.

The Los Alamos Lads of Enchantment (LOE) announced Monday that their 2014 Annual Show, Oct. 24 and Oct. 25, featuring the 2010 International Quartet Champion Storm Front has been moved to the Duane W. Smith Auditorium in Los Alamos .

Valles Caldera Hosts Jemez Mountains Elk Festival

JEMEZ SPRINGS – With one of the largest elk herds in the state, the Valles Caldera National Preserve is the hidden gem of the Jemez Mountains.

The 89,000-acre preserve encases New Mexico’s only Super Volcano, and is an elk paradise. To celebrate the upcoming elk rut and to learn about this fascinating creature, the Valles Caldera Trust will host the sixth annual Jemez Mountains Elk Festival.

Scenes From Saturday’s Opera on the Rocks

A crowd gathers Saturday in Bandelier National Monument’s Juniper Campground outdoor amphitheater for the annual Opera on the Rocks. Opera Alta presented the abridged performance hosted by the Los Alamos Opera Guild of Guilds of The Santa Fe Opera, Inc., Opera Alta, Bandelier and the Los Alamos Commerce Development Corporation. Group Gathers For Friday Night Meetup At Blue Window

 Members of the local Meetup group gathered Friday night at the Blue Window Bistro in downtown Los Alamos to have a drink or dinner, visit with their friends and make some new ones.
