Special Program at Reel Deal Welcomes Kids Under 5

The national movement calling for baby-friendly theaters has reached Los Alamos.

“Driving Force” – a local group formed for foreign spouses by Jim Nesmith, Julie Ranger and Veronica Magnelind has initiated a special program called “Babes in Arm” in collaboration with the Real Deal Theater, 2552 Central Ave.

In the theater at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, the lights will be up, sound for the movie will be down and mothers or fathers and their children under 5 years of age will be enthusiastically welcomed.

Experience Pasión de Tango at LALT Thursday

Thrill to one of the most fascinating and sensual dance styles in the world when Pasión de Tango comes to Los Alamos Little Theatre at 7:30 p.m Thursday, Oct. 18.

Pasión de Tango will showcase Santa Fe tango performers and instructors Alp Findikoglu and Paula Couselo-Findikoglu and the Bailo Tango Dance Group as well as the music of the Alejandro Ziegler Quartet from Argentina.

Olions Perform Musical Comedy Murders of 1940’s

The Olions have decades of history at Los Alamos High. This fall the thespian club is presenting a play, Musical Comedy Murders of 1940’s and it is happening this coming weekend.

Tickets are $9 each and the show will be presented at 8 p.m. Oct. 19, 20, 26 and 27 with a matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20.

All five performances are in the new Black Box – third floor of the new LAHS building.

PEEC, Reel Deal Team Up for ‘The Big Year’

The Reel Deal Movie Theater and the Pajarito Environmental Education Center are bringing back their popular partnership to show nature films over the fall and winter months. 

The series begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 with a showing of The Big Year.

“This is the perfect film to kick off the series,” Katie Watson of PEEC said. “It’s a birding film, so it will appeal to our many birders in Los Alamos, but it also stars Jack Black, Steve Martin, and Owen Wilson, so fans of these actors, even if they aren’t birders, will want to watch it, as well.”

The Mother/Son Dance is Oct. 10, the Daddy/Daughter Dance is Oct. 11, and the NEW Family Dance on Oct. 12. Events are held 6-8:30 p.m. at Fuller Lodge and the evening includes light refreshments, dancing, a craft project and a digital keepsake photo.

What does it mean to connect? That’s the question posed by playwright Sarah Ruhl in her offbeat comedy “Dead Man’s Cell Phone.”  

Jean (Kate Ramsey) is calmly eating her lobster bisque in a café when she is disturbed by a ringing cell phone. She asks her fellow diner to answer it or turn it off, but he doesn’t respond.

It turns out he has a very good reason for his impolite behavior—he’s dead.
