Asterman’s Movie Reviews for Pitch Perfect, Seven Psychopaths and Paranormal Activity 4

The Deal Down Movie Reviews by Rick Asterman

(Film score range: +1, 0 or –1)

Pitch Perfect

+1

Advisory – Gleefully vulgar. The whole time I was watching the film, I was convinced of two things: how unbelievable I felt actually enjoying the movie, how obvious it was the film was just barely pared down from an R-Rating. Any kid mature enough to watch the original Austin Powers movie should be fine with Pitch Perfect, but it still remains a judgment call for the parents.

The greatest positive of writing movie reviews is when, against all odds, the film you’d instinctively avoid otherwise inverts your Read More

Movie Review: Midnight in Paris

Editor’s Note: Midnight in Paris will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 in the Upstairs Meeting Rooms at Mesa Public Library.

Movie Review By Elizabeth Wasilewska

Midnight in Paris – a 2010 comedy written and directed by Woody Allen – begins with a series of snapshots of Paris: rainy streets, cafes, cobblestone pathways.

This sequence mirrors the movie’s overall tone: a romantic, cheery wander through an artificial but charming Paris.

The character who wanders the most is Gil (Owen Wilson), a writer on vacation with his fiancee, Inez (Rachel McAdams), and her Read More

The Deal Down Movie Review
By Rick Asterman: I am not affiliated with the Reel Deal Theater, or any other financial entity. My mission is to provide concise, honest reviews of movies playing at the Los Alamos Reel Deal Theater, plus parental advisement on the films content and advise on which interested parties you should or shouldn’t take with you to the movie. Scores for the films will be either +1, 0, or –1. By spring, when the year’s award ceremonies start up, I’ll analyze this year’s movies in greater detail, and give a special score of +2 or –2. There is no limit to the number of films from the year

‘Pitch Perfect’ – A Perfect Melody of Laughter and Fun

Movie Review by Kirsten Laskey

This is a great time of year to go to the cinema. After a period of lackluster listings on the marquees, we are now in the season when all the exciting and heavily anticipated movies begin to put a shine on the theaters’ signs.

Take for instance the Reel Deal Theater’s listings – they are showing “Argo” and “The Master” – two very poignant and dramatic pieces that plow deep in their examination of human nature and the word.

Despite these movies’ dramatic flair, I didn’t see either film. Instead, I picked the lightest, fluffiest movie Read More
