League Of American Bicyclists Renews Los Alamos County’s Bronze-Level Bicycle Friendly Community Designation

The League of American Bicyclists honored the efforts of Los Alamos County to build better places for people to bike, renewing its Bronze-Level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) designation on Jan. 29.

County Libraries Kick Off Spring With Seed-sorting Events

The Los Alamos County Public Library System and Los Alamos Community Seed Library are welcoming spring with a volunteer seed-sorting event Saturday, Feb. 7, at the White Rock Branch Library. The event runs 2-4 p.m., and all community members are invited to help clean, sort, and package donated seeds.

DPU Seeks Future Leaders And Change Makers

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is inviting local high school students to enter an essay contest that could lead to: 1) a spot at a weeklong summer leadership camp, and 2) a $500 college scholarship. The contest is part of a program organized by Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS), of which DPU is a member.

Gov. Appoints Kyle Harwood To State Game Commission

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has appointed Kyle Harwood to the State Game Commission to serve the remainder of retiring District 4 Commissioner Sharon Hickey’s term. 

Harwood, an attorney, is an expert on land and water law, and on regulation and policy issues throughout New Mexico. He currently serves on the Legal Specialization Commission of the State Bar of New Mexico. 

Harwood is also a member of the Governor’s Water Ambassadors Taskforce and served on the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Water Taskforce from 2003 to 2010.

TAOS — The New Mexico Environment Department’s Brownfields Program is supporting the transformation of a blighted mechanic shop in El Prado, near Taos, into a new distillery and tasting room.
