New Mexico Supreme Court Rules Against Citizen Petitions For Grand Jury Investigations Of Governor’s Response To COVID-19 Pandemic

SANTA FE – Citizen-initiated petitions to convene grand juries to investigate the governor’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic are legally invalid, the New Mexico Supreme Court ruled today.

The Court issued an order directing district court judges to deny grand jury petitions filed in Chaves, Eddy and Lea counties and any similar petitions elsewhere in the state “because they only describe lawful, noncriminal activity”, which is outside the boundaries of what a grand jury can investigate.

New Mexico Veterans Services Begins In-Office Outreach

DVS News:

The New Mexico Department of Veterans Services (DVS) has resumed in-office veterans benefits outreach visits and veterans property tax exemption/waiver service days in communities throughout the state.

These outreaches had been halted due to a winter surge in the number of positive COVID-19 pandemic cases.

The positivity rate has dropped, and the state Department of Health has lifted its safety mask public health order for most public locations.

The First Born Program of Los Alamos is offering a free Breastfeeding Basics Class with Kelly Vallejo, MSW, CLC, First Born Program Lactation Counselor 5:30-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 15.

New Mexico COVID-19 Update March 4: 381 New Cases, Totaling 513,311 With 16 Deaths & 472,426 Recovered

SANTA FE — New Mexico state health officials today announced 381  additional COVID-19 cases.

Los Alamos County reported 3 new cases today, bringing the total to 2,671  people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

This update includes 16 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19 and a 7-Day positivity rate of 6.5 percent.
