County Council To Consider Purchase Of Diamond Drive Properties During Nov. 19 Meeting

The Los Alamos County Council will consider a potential purchase of three properties at 1183, 1377 and 1399 Diamond Drive during its meeting on Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Ave.
The proposed purchase, valued at $9.85 million, is intended to advance several Council-adopted strategic priorities to enhance economic vitality and quality of life.

Interfaith Coalition On Homelessness Asks For Help

Last summer the Interfaith Coalition on Homelessness was created with the primary goal of helping to reduce homelessness in Española.
Thus far eight congregations in Los Alamos County and one in Española are participating and more are being encouraged to join.
Coalition members are now asking for help from residents of White Rock and Los Alamos. Please join in supporting the Española Pathways Shelter as it ramps up for cold weather and resumes offering overnight stays.

Heinrich Leads Legislation To Combat Syphilis Epidemic
U.S. SENATE News:
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sens. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Roger Wicker (R- Miss.) introduced the Maternal and Infant Syphilis Prevention Act.
This is legislation to protect pregnant mothers and infants by requiring the Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary to issue guidance to states on best practices for screening and treatment of congenital syphilis under Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and the Indian Health Service (IHS).

Los Alamos County Provides Warming Centers
During inclement weather, individuals stranded or otherwise facing the elements may need a safe place to stay warm. Los Alamos County Social Services division has identified several locations where individuals can temporarily seek shelter to warm up.
While these sites may not offer full amenities such as restrooms, they provide a safe environment to avoid the elements.
The following locations are open to the public:
- Los Alamos Police Station vestibule – 2500 Trinity Drive – Open 24 hours, seven days a week;
- Justice Center – 2500 Trinity Drive – Open to individuals
