The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) hosted an active shooter based full-scale exercise Saturday, May 18 at UNM-Los Alamos. Los Alamos Police, Fire, Emergency Management and Classic Air Medical all participated in preparing for and responding to an active shooter event. The exercise provided valuable rescue task force training for those involved and gave each entity several ideas on how to improve their preparation and response. Photo by Jenn Bartram

The Los Alamos Fire Department issues the all clear and evacuated employees return to work this afternoon at the Municipal Building. County officials indicate that burnt food in a toaster oven at lunch time trigger the fire alarm and all employees were evacuated at about 12:30 p.m. today. The employees remained at the rear of the parking lot while police and firefighters entered to building. It took about 30 minutes for the responders to clear the building and lift the evacuation.
