Wildfires continue to scar California beyond the normal fire season in what’s been a particularly catastrophic year for natural disasters across the U.S. But a new big-data solution for predicting wildfire spread is also heating up, and it may become a useful tool in the firefighters’ arsenal, according to wildfire researchers attending the 2017 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting.

SFNF Stops Ignitions On Gallinas Watershed Burn

SFNF News:

SANTA FE – There will be no additional ignitions on the Gallinas Watershed prescribed burn this month, according to fire managers on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF). Crews will continue to monitor treated units within the watershed.

Even though ignitions have ceased, small pockets within the project area continue to burn at low intensity, and smoke is visible from Gallinas, Romeroville, Porvenir, Tecolote, Mineral Hill, Las Vegas and I-25.

SFNF: Meeting For Fire Equipment Vendors

SANTA FE  The Southwestern Region of the USDA Forest Service will hold an informational meeting for vendors interested in providing resources to support wildfires and other emergency incidents. 
 
The meeting on the 2018 solicitations is scheduled 1-4 p.m. MST Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, via video teleconference (VTC) at Forest Service offices throughout New Mexico. Vendors are welcome to attend the VTC at the Santa Fe National Forest Supervisor’s Office at 11 Forest Lane in Santa Fe.
