Furthermore, if you hold an elected office anywhere in northern New Mexico and support the sale, procurement or use of fireworks in your jurisdiction, you are demonstrably unfit for service. Read More

The Cajete Fire on the Santa Fe National Forest’s Jemez Ranger District was declared controlled at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, July 16, thanks to recent moisture that arrived with the monsoon season.
The 1,412-acre Cajete Fire, which started June 15 from an abandoned campfire, has been 96 percent contained since June 21.
Incident command determined that the uncontained 4 percent of the fire perimeter was not safe for firefighters to enter. The area near Los Griegos Peak is in the burn scar from the 2011 Las Conchas Fire and still contains multiple hazard trees, which can fall without warning. Read More

Los Alamos Police and Firefighters respond to a report this morning of a person stuck in an elevator at the former Hilltop House Hotel at Trinity Drive and Central Avenue. A search did not turn up anyone in either of the two elevators in the building, however, there are signs that someone broke through the chain link fence surrounding the hotel and made their way inside. Police received a report last week from a passerby spotting a person on one of the upper floors. LAFD has left the scene and LAPD remains to continue their investigation.
