BLM Taos Field Office Announces Emergency Fire Prevention Closure Of San Pedro Mountains

Taos – Due to increased risk of human-caused fire and current fire danger, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Taos Field Office is temporarily closing public lands into or upon the San Pedro Mountains in Santa Fe County.

 

 Closure warnings have been posted at the entrances to the San Pedro Mountains. This order will remain in effect until July 29 or until the area receives significant moisture.

SANTA FE – Call them what you will – four-wheelers, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) or utility vehicles (UTVs) – but remember that off-road vehicles of any kind are always prohibited within congressionally designated wilderness areas.

SANTA FE – Today, Gov. Susana Martinez issued an executive order for flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday, June 27, 2017 in honor and mourning of Nara Visa firefighter John Cammack.
 
Cammack, 76, died from wounds inflicted while fighting the Griffith Fire, which threatened his community.

Los Alamos County Under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

By order of the Los Alamos Fire Department and effective immediately, Los Alamos County is under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions.

These restrictions are slightly less restrictive than Stage 2, which went into effect last week due to extreme fire danger. Weekend rainfall has helped ease the wildfire threat; however, LAFD will continue to monitor fire weather conditions and adjust as needed. Restrictions may increase or decrease, depending upon weather conditions developing over the next week.

This will be the final update issued on the Cajete Fire winding down in the Jemez.

Under the leadership of Type 3 Incident Commander Matt Armantrout, firefighters today are mopping-up hot spots, gridding for residual heat and addressing fire suppression repair needs, including removing hazardous trees along N.M. 4.
