Final Evening Update On Cajete Fire: Size: 1,412 Acres … Containment: 85 Percent

Note: This is the last evening update. Future updates will be sent out once a day.

Today crews on the fireline observed minimal fire activity. Heavy dead and down timber continues to burn in the interior of fire. The uncontained section of the fire perimeter is within a snag patch (a section of standing dead trees) in the southeastern corner of the fire near Los Griegos Peak. The standing dead trees in this area, left by the 2011 Las Conchas fire, can fall suddenly, making this area too dangerous for firefighters to enter. This portion of the fire has been holding and is not expected to grow.

County Update On Cajete Fire Evacuated Animals

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County just issued an update on evacuation efforts for animals displaced by the Cajete Fire burning in the Jemez.

Several dogs have already been reunited with their owners and housing continues for a variety of other animals.

Owners are asked to stop by the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter and pick up their animals if they are able to return home at this point, or, to call the Animal Shelter 505-662.8179 and give the staff an anticipated pick up time. The El Cajete Fire has burned 1,400 acres since igniting Thursday morning in the Jemez. There are now 424 personnel battling the blaze, which this evening is 80 percent contained.

SANTA FE – As more than 300 people continued to battle the 1,400-acre Cajete Fire that sparked last Thursday from an abandoned campfire, the already-overloaded fire team on the Santa Fe National Forest was forced to respond to more abandoned campfires today.
