Gallinas Watershed Prescribed Burn Postponed Again

SANTA FE  Fire managers are postponing the completion of the prescribed burn in the Gallinas Watershed until Oct. 24 or later, based on windy conditions predicted for this week.
 
At the end of operations last week, fire crews had completed an estimated 200 acres in the Gallinas wildland-urban interface (WUI) project area. The 1,300-acre Gallinas Watershed treatment area is located approximately 20 miles northwest of Las Vegas, N.M.

SANTA FE – Smoke from the prescribed burn in the Santa Fe Municipal Watershed last week is lingering over the city as higher-than-expected temperatures created an inversion that has slowed its dispersal.

JEMEZ SPRINGS  Valles Caldera National Preserve will initiate prescribed burn projects beginning early next week, dependent upon suitable weather and fuel conditions.
 
The prescribed burn will take place within an approximately 1,200-acre project area in the Banco Bonito district of the preserve – north of N.M. 4 near mile marker 30. Police cited the driver of this GM Emulsion LLC truck from Santa Fe for following too close after it ran into the back of a car and pushed it into the back of another car around 5 p.m. Thursday on Trinity Drive. SANTA FE  Based on smoke impacts to the City of Santa Fe and data on air quality, the Santa Fe National Forest decided today to conclude the prescribed burn in the Santa Fe Municipal Watershed.

Prescribed Burn Planned On Cuba Ranger District

SANTA FE  Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct the Diego prescribed burn on the Cuba Ranger District. 
 
Ignitions for the 378-acre treatment area, located just north of Gilman and two miles southwest of Seven Springs, could begin as early as Oct. 11 and run through Nov. 4, 2016. That window is dependent on favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts. Small blocks may be treated each day to decrease the daily smoke volume.

Fatality Today In Bandelier National Monument

BANDELIER News:

A female park visitor died today, Monday, Oct. 3, in Bandelier National Monument after being struck by a falling tree. Park rangers were notified at approximately 2:30 p.m. of the incident.

Park rangers, the Los Alamos County Fire Department and the Los Alamos County Police Department responded to the incident.

The medical examiner and law enforcement have not completed the investigation at the time of this news release and no further details are presently available. Read More
