SANTA FE – Smoke from the prescribed burn in the Santa Fe Municipal Watershed last week is lingering over the city as higher-than-expected temperatures created an inversion that has slowed its dispersal.
Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest, in consultation with the New Mexico Environment Department and the New Mexico Department of Health, decided Friday morning to stop ignitions on the Watershed prescribed burn based on air quality and smoke impacts to Santa Fe. Police cited the driver of this GM Emulsion LLC truck from Santa Fe for following too close after it ran into the back of a car and pushed it into the back of another car around 5 p.m. Thursday on Trinity Drive. Police had to tow the damaged truck to an adjacent parking lot. A female park visitor died today, Monday, Oct. 3, in Bandelier National Monument after being struck by a falling tree. Park rangers were notified at approximately 2:30 p.m. of the incident.
Park rangers, the Los Alamos County Fire Department and the Los Alamos County Police Department responded to the incident.
