Valles Caldera National Preserve Burns Planned

JEMEZ SPRINGS – Valles Caldera National Preserve is planning to implement prescribed burn projects from early October through the end of November, based on suitable weather and fuel conditions.

The prescribed burn will take place within an approximately 1,800-acre project area in the Banco Bonito district of the preserve – north of N.M. 4 near mile marker 30. Gallinas Watershed Prescribed Burn Planned

SANTA FE  Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct the previously announced Gallinas Watershed prescribed burn on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District. 
 
The window for the prescribed burn will open Oct. 3 and extend through January 2017. The decision to burn will be dependent on favorable weather conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality, weather forecasts and available resources.

Managed Fires On SFNF Meet Objectives

SANTA FE  Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest have completed operations on both the 329-acre 138 Fire on the Jemez Ranger District and the 700-acre Cuerno Fire on the Coyote Ranger District. 
 
Both the 138 and Cuerno Fires were lightning-caused and presented opportunities to capitalize on natural ignitions to achieve multiple objectives on the landscape.

Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct the Cedar Springs prescribed burn on the Cuba Ranger District sometime between Sept. 23 and Oct. 1. That window is dependent on favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts.
