The Valles Caldera Trust is planning to implement a prescribed pile burn today and Wednesday, Dec. 17.
The prescribed pile burn will be on 75 acres of the Valles Caldera National Preserve, north of N.M. 4 in the Banco Bonito area near mile marker 30. The purpose of the burn is to reduce hazardous fuels and the chance for future catastrophic fire and for the restoration of fire in a fire-adapted ecosystem.

Barranca Mesa Elementary teacher Cynthia Kuenzel serves Los Alamos Police Chief Dino Sgambellone, his wife Robyn and children Emily and Nick during Saturday’s annual Appreciation Dinner. Los Alamos Firefighters Contain White Rock Brush Fire And Preserve Surrounding Homes
Los Alamos County Firefighters knocked down a brush fire that erupted this morning in the back yard of a home at 49 Grand Canyon. Deputy Fire Chief Justin Grider was at the scene and said 30-foot flames could be seen over the roofline of the home. The fire consumed a shed on the property and scorched a 600-800 square-foot area, burning trees and the fence between the home and a neighboring home at 47 Grand Canyon. SANTA FE— Fire managers at Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct a prescribed pile burn in the Santa Fe Watershed on the Espanola Ranger District. The Santa Fe Watershed pile burn may be conducted from Dec. 1 through the month of February on favorable days as conditions allow.
Approximately 100 acres of piles may be treated in the Santa Fe Watershed area, which is located approximately two miles east of Santa Fe. Small blocks of piles may be treated each day to decrease the daily smoke volume.

SANTA FE – Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct an additional prescribed pile burn on the Cuba Ranger District. In addition to the previously announced Cedar Springs and Chaparral prescribed burns, the La Jara prescribed burn may be conducted through next March, only on favorable days as conditions allow.

SANTA FE– Fire managers at the Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct prescribed pile burns on the Cuba Ranger District.
The Cedar Springs and Chaparral prescribed pile burns may be conducted from Nov.13 through March 30 only on favorable days as conditions allow.
The Cedar Springs prescribed pile burn is a total of 160 acres in the area north of the community of LLaves and Dead Man’s Peak Lookout.
