SANTA FE — Prescribed pile burn ignitions will begin today, Nov. 14, in the Jemez and Cuba Ranger Districts, and Friday, Nov. 15, in the Española Ranger District.

Pile burning is meant to treat slash such as branches, piled by thinning crews with the aim to reduce flammable fuels and mitigate the risk of large high intensity wildfires.

SANTA FE — With recent snowfall, Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) fire managers are preparing for winter prescribed fire activities.

Pile burns are tentatively planned as early as next week and will occur between November and April in the Cuba, Coyote, Jemez, and Espanola ranger districts. Pile burning is meant to treat slash, like branches, piled by thinning crews with the aim to reduce flammable fuels and mitigate the risk of large high intensity wildfires.

Bureau Of Land Management Farmington Field Office Plans Prescribed Pile Burns Near Cedar Hill And West Navajo

FARMINGTON — Beginning Nov. 1, 2024, and continuing through out the month, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plans to conduct prescribed pile burn operations in two locations in the Farmington Field Office.

One unit will be seven acres in size, located just south of Cedar Hill. The second unit will be 12 acres in size, near NM 511, between mile marker 17 and 20, approximately five miles north/northwest of Navajo Lake State Park.

County Reopens Survey For Fire Station 4 Site Selection

The Los Alamos County Public Works and Fire departments hosted a public meeting at 5:30 p.m., Oct. 15 at the Fire Department Administration offices.

During the meeting, the project team presented the results of the site selection survey, which closed on Oct. 7, along with collected data on response times, environmental impacts, and a rough cost analysis for the three sites being considered for the replacement of Fire Station 4.

In response to requests from meeting attendees, the project team has reopened the survey, now available until 11:59 p.m., Oct. 30.

Public Meetings Scheduled On Fire Station 4 Site Selection

The Los Alamos County Public Works and Fire departments have scheduled two additional public meetings regarding the site selection for the new Fire Station 4.

Scheduled for Oct. 15 and 21, both in-person meetings will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Fire Department Administration offices at 999 Central Ave., 3rd Floor.
