NPS Seeks Public Comment On Fire Management Plan’s EA For Valles Caldera National Preserve Through Nov. 3

JEMEZ SPRINGS — The National Park Service (NPS) prepared a fire management plan for Valles Caldera National Preserve and is seeking public input on the plan’s environmental assessment (EA) from Oct. 1 through Nov. 3.

Los Alamos County Survey And Recording Of Fire Station 4 Public Meeting Now Available Online

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Public Works and Fire Departments held a public meeting on Monday evening to review the three sites under consideration for the proposed Fire Station 4 replacement project.

Officials announced that those who were unable to attend can now watch a recording of the meeting and take a short survey, both available on the County website: https://lacnm.com/FS4

NNSA Posts Floodplain Statement Of Findings On Proposed Live Fire Range Fuels Mitigation Project At LANL

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has posted the Floodplain Statement of Findings for the proposed live fire range fire fuels mitigation project at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

The fire fuels mitigation project would take place in lower Sandia Canyon at the Technical Area 72 Outdoor Live Fire Range and surrounding areas at  LANL.

The proposed project would result in limited and minor direct and indirect short-term impacts to the Sandia Canyon 100-year floodplain and would not result in adverse impacts to the floodplain values or functions.

State Provides $70 Million In Zero-Interest Loans Towards Salt And South Fork Fires Recovery

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration (DFA), in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security Emergency Management (DHSEM), have awarded $70 million in zero-interest loans to local governments to repair or replace public infrastructure damaged by fire, flooding or debris caused by or stemming from the Salt and South Fork fires.

SANTA FE—Fire Managers from the Española Ranger District are preparing and planning for multiple prescribed fire projects tentatively planned for fall and winter.

The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) has issued a temporary closure for sections of Forest Road 102 and the Windsor Trail in the Española Ranger District. This is a temporary closure to protect traditional and cultural resources and uses.
