Camel Tracks Fire In Santa Fe County Under Investigation

BLM News:

SANTA FE — The 63-acre Camel Tracks Fire on the Caja del Rio in northern Santa Fe County has been contained. It is under investigation by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

Although fully contained, there are still hot spots burning within the fire perimeter, so residents may still see smoke.

The BLM would like to caution the community to avoid the area while crews are on site, and remind that although temporary fire restrictions in the area were lifted Aug. 18, there are still statewide restrictions on the use of exploding targets and fireworks year-round on BLM lands.

The Black Feather Fire, burning approximately 9 miles south of Gallina on the Coyote Ranger District, on the San Pedro Parks Wilderness, near the Peñas Negras Trail on the Santa Fe National Forest, remains at 2,198 acres consumed, 28 percent contained and 155 personnel on scene as of this morning. Bureau Of Land Management Rescinds Fire Restrictions In Nine Counties Including Los Alamos

BLM News:

FARMINGTON — With increasing precipitation and higher humidity, resulting in reduced fire danger, the Bureau of Land Management has rescinded fire restrictions in Los Alamos, San Juan, Rio Arriba, Taos, Colfax, Union, Santa Fe, Mora, Harding and San Miguel counties, as well as portions of public land in McKinley and Sandoval counties.

This action rescinds Fire Prevention Order # NMF00000-23-01.

Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office Compensates Claimants Over $27 Million To Date

SANTA FE — The Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office has paid claimants more than $27 million to date.

“When I think about the weeks and months ahead, I really think about it as a time of accelerated action,” Director Angela Gladwell said. “The Claims Office will continue to compensate claimants as quickly as possible and ensure those claimants are receiving the full compensation under the law.

No Classes Today At Mountain Elementary School

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) had an issue with the fire alarm system at Mountain Elementary School Thursday night. Unfortunately, the fire suppression system is not working.

LAPS is not allowed to have students in the building if the alarm system or fire suppression does not work.

LAPS has identified the problem and will work to get it fixed as quickly as possible.

There will be NO school for Mountain Students today, Friday  Aug. 18. School will resume Monday, Aug. 21.

Santa Fe National Forest Lifts Campfire Restrictions

SANTA FE — The Santa Fe National Forest will lift campfire and smoking restrictions effective 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023, based on decreasing fire danger.

Fire managers continually evaluate conditions across the forest to determine when to implement or rescind fire restrictions. With the onset of the more traditional monsoonal weather pattern, fire danger has significantly decreased with the increased moisture, cloud cover, and higher humidity.
