Letter To The Editor: Response To John Roberts

By TERRY GOLDMAN
Los Alamos

“Does the golf course make over benefit anyone other than golfers? A large portion of the community is against this, and it will only benefit a small portion of our population.” (link)

I doubt John Roberts knows that the first portion is “large”. He clearly does not know that many businesses in town will benefit from increased traffic associated with golfers choosing to come here to play on an improved course.

I doubt John Roberts knows that the second portion is “small”. But surely the County can respond by pointing to the (consultant or county) analysis that supports Read More

Letter To The Editor: Walking

By LYNN HANRAHAN
Los Alamos

The traffic diet on Trinity makes me happy.

A long time ago I used to walk to work and back from Gold Street to the old Schools’ Headquarters. I usually cut down through the middle by the apartments and orthodontic office and passed by what’s now the Reel Deal.  Taking the sidewalk was always scary, especially in inclement weather. The first time I saw the current striping I was happy something had finally been done.

But now maybe it will be undone. Drivers in a hurry must have their way. Pedestrians be damned! How many pedestrians have been injured and killed over the past Read More

Letter To The Editor: Thank You LA Parks Department

By LYNN STRAUSS
Los Alamos

Last week I hiked one of those trails nearly obscured with overgrown weeds like the one mentioned in the letter from Stephanie Nakhleh, “Our Parks Need Love” Aug. 21 in the Los Alamos Daily Post (link).

The weeds were sometimes 5 feet tall or more and so close to the trail I had to raise my arms to avoid scratches. Today I hiked the same trail and the overgrowth had been trimmed back to create a path wide enough for bikers as well as hikers.

I know the Parks Department employees are often overworked and underpaid so I want to thank the hardworking staff, including Raymond Villalobos Read More

Letter To The Editor: To The Owner’s Of Large Dogs At White Rock Senior Center’s Car Show

By MICHAEL RAGSDALE
White Rock

I would like to address this letter to the unknown couple with the two very large dogs who visited the White Rock Senior Center’s car show at around 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19.

I watched in horror as your dog jumped up on the fender of my classic car, not once but twice, clearly indicating that the lady was not in control of her dog in spite of the leash. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the scratches your dog left in my paint of my car! Thank you!!! And you didn’t even have the courtesy to apologize to me.

As if this were not enough, not five minutes later, your two dogs proceeded Read More

Letter To The Editor: Kindness And Generosity Spotted At Smith’s

Local Resident Spots Kindness

This past Sunday, when so many people were shopping for school supplies, an elderly resident was in the School Supplies aisle at Smith’s. He was talking to the people who were shopping.

He found out why they were there: student, teacher, parent, grandparent…).

He talked to people long enough to determine what would help. And then he gave them cash accordingly, providing that help.

What a blessing to so many. How wonderful to have him in this town! Read More

Letter To The Editor: John Stam’s Repley To Warren

By ROY CHRISTENSEN
Los Alamos

It is apparent that Warren is not a golfer (link). As a former President of LAGA as my wife was with the Ladies LAGA, Stam’s fine letter (link) did not mention that the building is used for many social events for residents that are not even golfers.

The building and patio area that was replaced with the current structure, several of the members helped design it, even to drawing up the plans. We spent a lot of hours including input from members with great savings to the county.

Golfing is a sport the whole family can enjoy and is the only recreation item that produces income Read More

Letter To The Editor: Canyon Road Closure Due To Construction Is Unbearable

By CHRISTY LADD
Los Alamos

The Canyon Road closure due to construction is unbearable. I am wondering why this work wasn’t completed prior to school starting; and why crews cannot work throughout the evening/nighttime hours to get the project completed.

There is currently one road that is accessible in and out of the townsite. The traffic is out of control. I understand that this will continue until November? It takes 30 to 40 minutes to get across town. Totally unacceptable.
I am sure that I will receive a “sorry for the inconvenience”; but I am mostly interested in when the construction will

Letter To The Editor: Vitriol Toward Golfers And Golf Course Counterproductive

By COLE PAFFETT
Los Alamos

I agree with Mr. Warren that the PRB’s recent decision to advance Option A for the golf course expansion was not the best decision.

Personally, I felt that Option D was the most ideal option as it minimized the impact to the surrounding open space while still meeting the goals of our county’s golfing community. I frequently mountain bike on our trail network and I don’t wish to see a section of the Walnut Canyon Rim trail relocated as it provides excellent singletrack for bikers and hikers.

While I am by no means a golf enthusiast, I have played a few rounds at the golf course Read More
