Letter To The Editor: The Undeveloped Land Around Los Alamos Middle School

By JANE NORDHOLT
Los Alamos

I am writing in regard to the “proposed” development of the area around Los Alamos Middle School.

I write “proposed” because all to often, proposed developments seem to be a done deal before any studies are completed or the public has any voice in the decision. I hope this is not the case here.

The undeveloped land around the middle school is precious open space where students can exercise safely away from traffic and enjoy the natural beauty of our area. Continuing development of open space and filling in neighborhoods, makes us all poorer and contributes to problems Read More

Letter To The Editor: Response To Robert Day’s Claims Regarding LANL Vaccine Mandate

By RON MOSES, Ph.D.
Fort Collins, Colorado
rwmoses@earthlink.net

As a former resident of Los Alamos, I continue to enjoy reading the Los Alamos Daily Post. As one interested in the well-being of Los Alamos and LANL, I must respond to the extraordinarily misleading claims in Robert Day’s letter of October 20 regarding the Laboratory’s vaccine mandate (link).

In his first point, Mr. Day asks “What is the risk factor associated with COVID”. He arrives at a figure that the overall Laboratory employee set has an approximate risk of 0.08% for death due to COVID-19, presumably in a year’s time. He compares Read More

Letter To The Editor: To David Reagor, Paul Jaramillo, Nikole Garcia And Rick Mooday

By ANDREA CUNNINGHAM, RN, BSN
LAPS Board Member Feb. 2015-Dec. 2019

To David Reagor, Paul Jaramillo, Nikole Garcia And Rick Mooday, I feel I must respond to your attacks on our school district, our teachers, our students, and our parents in your support for candidates and/or run for our local school board.

You all have been loudly supportive of the king of “Alternative Facts” and have presented that warped view of the world in your discourse. It seems during these past six years, everyone has become a Google “expert”, becoming Dr. Google, Educator Google, and now Google Statistics Expert.

Letter To The Editor: Endorsement For Erin Green

By BILL PRIEDHOSKY
Los Alamos

I have been inspired by the dedication of school board candidate Erin Green to the children of our community.

She has been thoughtful and extraordinarily hard working in what she brings to religious education at the Unitarian Church; I have seen how she listens with an open mind and heart.

Her life and mental health professional experiences give her insight into what works and what doesn’t in the public schools of this community.

Erin has served well representing District 5 on the school board – I welcome her willingness to serve another term. Read More

Letter To The Editor: Voting FOR Public Schools Building Act

By LISA ZUHN
Los Alamos

School board and UNM-LA elections don’t always get a great turnout and it’s easy to put off voting when we are busy and, if you are like me, tired of hearing about politics.

But we can all do a small act that has a huge impact on our local school district, vote FOR the Public Schools Building Act question that is on the ballot.

Voting FOR this provides money the schools need to maintain their facilities, update technology, and provide resources for students and teachers.

Please join me in voting FOR the Public Schools Building Act to provide the best education possible for our children. Read More

Letter To The Editor: I’ll Be Voting FOR Public Schools Building Act Question … Because It Really Is A Big Thing

By JENNY MCCUMBER
Los Alamos

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” –Robert Brault

When I drive by the playground where my children spent so many years at Mountain School, I think back on all the conversations with other moms, hashing out the issues of parenting, laughing, and just how much we needed that social hour while we watched our children play after school.

I’m so grateful we had those moments during that stage of our lives. I didn’t realize how quickly the time would pass and how nostalgic I would be.

The playground has some new equipment Read More

Letter To The Editor: Endorsing School Board Members Colgan, Boerigter, Specter And Green As Good Stewards Of The System And Its Legacy

By PHIL GURSKY
Los Alamos

During my years involved in community service activities, I have had the opportunity to interact with and come to know Interim Superintendent Jennifer Guy and all the current members of the School Board. I commend them and the whole of the teachers and staff of LAPS for working diligently and mindfully to continue educational progress and the safety of the students of the district, as well as the teachers and other staff, during the changing challenges of the COVID pandemic.

Inconsistent with the characterization of the responsibilities and priorities of the School Read More

Letter To The Editor: Thanks To Alex Moulton, Joshua Chapman, Melissa Goldman

By MIKE ADAMS
Los Alamos

I may have missed another letter and, if so, I apologize for not thanking that writer too. The past few weeks, and especially the past few days, have left me thinking about this local school board election. I cannot wait for it to be over! I have followed online commentary, considered the message, and I feel a few things must be said.

First, Alex Moulton, Joshua Chapman, Melissa Goldman, and anyone else who has publicly stood up for yourself, thank you. Responding to a public attack that vilifies you as a member of a targeted group is difficult. Your willingness to stand up and

Letter To The Editor: ‘A Trans LAHS Graduate And His Peers Needed LGBTQ+ Education In School’

By ALEX MOULTON
Los Alamos

I never thought I would be so consumed by a letter to the editor that I would feel compelled to respond. But last week my Mom showed me Valerie Fox’s letter. We were shocked, we felt Los Alamos was a safe haven for people like me. Especially since the high school accommodated my name change, and my peers had chosen me for homecoming king – even before I transitioned. But when I thought about it, I remembered everything.

The first incident I remembered was when my first girlfriend and I were walking by some boys and after they saw us they sniffed the air and yelled “Ew it’s Read More

Letter To The Editor: Please, Please Control Your Dogs!

By E. JACOB
Los Alamos

Thank you, thank you,  thank you M. Perotto for bringing this annoying issue to light in the Western Area off Sandia Drive and 40th Street.

I live near UNM-LA and dogs bark anywhere from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. everyday. I have been woken at all hours of the night by barking dogs.

Please, please dog owners control your dogs. Leaving them out in the yards unsupervised is so not acceptable and a total disrespect for your neighbors. Read More
