Letter To The Editor: About LANL Vaccine Mandate

By DOUG REILLY
Los Alamos resident

Many LANL employees read the Los Alamos Daily Post; hence I write the following regarding the Lab COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Thursday’s Albuquerque Journal had a front page article entitled LANL workers suing lab over shot mandate; today’s Journal had one entitled Bid to block LANL vaccine order denied.

The anti-vexers on this vaccine, both here and around the nation, have no leg to stand on, in my opinion. The country, even some of its judges and lawyers do not correctly understand the First Amendment freedoms, Speech, Religion, Assembly, and the Press. These Read More

Letter To The Editor: New Mexico Needs Build Back Better Act

By PENNY HOLLAND
Los Alamos

The Build Back Better Act will provide our communities with healthy food; safe homes; quality early childhood education; clean water, air, and soil; updated schools, roads, bridges and broadband; better wages for educators and homecare providers; improved healthcare through expanded Medicaid and Medicare; and ~34,500 quality, and sustainable jobs.

Most Americans, and Democrats in Congress, overwhelmingly support this Act. But because 4% of Dems in Congress don’t, there is debate about possibly cutting some programs, or the years they’ll be funded.

Letter To The Editor: How Good Is Air Quality In LAPS Schools?

By ZHEN HUANG
Los Alamos

How good is the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) of our LAPS schools?

The recent outbreak of COVID-19 cases at the Barranca Elementary School apparently set a red flag on the IAQ issue.

You might have noticed that Barranca Elementary has just moved into a new construction. These new energy efficiency buildings are often built at the cost of lacking adequate natural ventilation.

Whether it is a major factor to the recent outbreak at the Barranca Elementary remains to be looked into, it is important that LAPS take the IAQ issue as a top priority on a regular system-wide basis as we continue Read More

BIANCA ENRIQUEZ

We are writing this letter of recommendation on behalf of Ms. Nickole Aguilar-Garcia, a candidate for LAPS school board. We have the fortune of knowing Nickole, we know her heart and the passion she applies to everything she involves herself in.

As individuals who coach and work with our LAPS youth, we share Nickole’s heart for the holistic development of today’s student population. Nickole understands the constant changing and complex environment youth face today and is well equipped to navigate these waters and the challenges Read More

Letter To The Editor: Please Vote For Antonio Jaurigue Because He Shows Up

By DAVID PARSONS
District #2 Constituent

My name is David Parsons. I am the father of five children, four of whom attend Chamisa Elementary at this time. I will continue to be a parent at Chamisa for the next 10 years. In addition, I am a nearby homeowner, so I am deeply invested and interested in the future of Chamisa and the associated District 2 School Board Election.

The person who is elected to this position will help make many decisions, including two long term, large scale decisions. These large scale decisions are hiring a new superintendent, and rebuilding both Pinon and Chamisa schools.  Read More

Letter To The Editor: Mill Levy Response…

By RICK NEBEL
Los Alamos

This is a response to Sharon Dry’s letter on the mill levy. I grew up in Springfield, Illinois. Springfield is the capitol city of Illinois, and the State of Illinois is by far the largest employer in the city. In the 1960s those jobs were largely political jobs (this was before civil service) and most people would take those jobs with the idea that they would live in Springfield for 4 or 8 years and then go elsewhere. Consequently, a large part of the electorate felt that they didn’t have much vested interest in funding the city or its schools.

I’m a baby boomer, and our population Read More

Letter To The Editor: I Am Ready To Represent District 2

By ANTONIO R. JAURIGUE
District 2 School Board Candidate

It is no secret that this school board election has been more contentious than any school board election should be. I would like to make my case one final time before election day.

During this election cycle, there have been many important points raised on all sides, and I have already learned so much about what the community wants and needs in a candidate. I’ve presented my biography before, as well as answered as many questions as have been asked in the many forums as well as on my website. But allow me to explore some in detail here.

It has been Read More

Letter To The Editor: Vote Against School District Mill Levy Question

By SHARON DRY
White Rock

I believe it is time to stop paying additional property taxes to fund the Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS), and vote AGAINST the Public School Buildings Act Tax, which is on the Nov. 2 ballot.

The levy will “continue to impose a property tax of $3.246 for residential and non-residential property per each $1,000.00 of net taxable value of property allocated to the Los Alamos Public School district for the property tax years 2022…2027”.

The LAPS already receives Federal, State, DOE, COVID and County property tax money to run and maintain the Los Alamos Schools.

Letter To The Editor: Why Bother Taking A Poll?

By A. SCOTT
Los Alamos

I recently took the poll regarding the “Art Mosaics” the County has purchased for the leisure pool. I say purchased as it is on the artists website as installed in the Los Alamos Aquatic Center. https://www.amandajaffe.com/art-in-public-places

The APP board is trying to be good stewards of the taxpayer’s funds yet fails to get input before they commission the works. Having them listed as part of the Los Alamos Aquatic Center, leads the public to believe that they are sold.

Los Alamos is unique in the different forms of water found in the region. Pools reflecting the morning Read More

Letter To The Editor: Antonio Jaurigue Is My Guy

By MATTHEW WILLIAMS
Former School Board Member
District 2, 2012-2016

I started my service on the Los Alamos School Board in January of 2012. At that time, I did not know that the District Office had already decided on a plan for the future of Chamisa Elementary School. The plan was that when the doors closed at the end of the Spring semester, they would not open again as an elementary school that was under the jurisdiction of LAPS.

The students and community would be notified in the late July/early August time frame when the students would be told to report to Pinon school for classes.

My hard work “fighting Read More
